Tail Wagging Fun!

Yappy Hour, The Ritz-Carlton, Laguna Niguel’s monthly cocktail party for canines and their companions, returns this season for tail wagging fun. Dapper dogs, haute hounds and classy canines are invited to party with other pups and pooches and lap up libations such as bacon, chicken, and beef-infused water and the ever popular house-made dog biscuits, while their companions relax with a glass of Mutt Lynch Unleashed Chardonnay, Merlot Over and Play Dead, or Chateau d’Og Cabernet Sauvignon. Cocktails, beer and a savory selection of barbecue items are also available for purchase.

As part of the resort’s Community Footprints program, proceeds from Yappy Hour will once again benefit The Veterans Initiative™ of Canine Companions for Independence. With a dramatic increase in wounded veterans, The Veterans Initiative™ provides an opportunity for them to regain their independence through the support of Canine Companions for Independence assistance dogs. To date, Canine Companions has placed more than 200 assistance dogs with veterans, and has 37 active teams from the Southwest Region.

Yappy Hour season begins on Thursday, May 25 from 5 to 8 p.m. Mark your calendars for a summer full of fun canine parties on June 22, July 27, August 24 and September 28.

On Thursday, October 26 from 4 to 7 p.m., the resort offers its Yappy Howl-O-Ween where pups and their human companions strut their stuff in their favorite costume. A panel of judges determines a winner, including Best in Show.

The season ending Yappy Howl-iday Celebration will be on Sunday, December 3 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. This festive gathering provides Fido a chance to be photographed with the “Big Dog” himself – Santa Claus.

Yappy Hour is held on The Dana Lawn at The Ritz-Carlton, Laguna Niguel. Visit RitzCarlton.com/LagunaYappyHour for more information.

Dana Point, CA Ranked No. 9 as America’s Happiest Seaside Towns 2017

dana-pointDana Point, CA Ranked No. 9 as America’s Happiest Seaside Towns 2017

Coastal Living has ranked Dana Point, California #9 as America’s Happiest Seaside Town 2017.

A once-sleepy town put on the map among the surf-minded set in the 1950s, Dana Point’s appeal has reached far beyond wave worshippers: A bustling harbor, locally owned restaurants, and more than 30 specialty shops attract thousands of visitors each year. Today, 35,000 people—a mix of everyone from retirees to young families—call Dana Point home. An 18-hole, Robert Trent Jones–designed golf course skirts the sea, and an emerging food scene has meant an influx of restaurants, and a $16 million rejuvenation project upgraded its historic Lantern Village district with outdoor seating, wider walkways, and coastal landscaping. It’s a Southern California gem.

We’re bringing in some of the best beer and most sought after wine in the country in addition to some of the world’s best BBQ. To top it all off, we’re holding it at one of California’s most beautiful parks and beaches! There have been plenty of beer and wine festivals, but there has never been one like this!”

Driftwood co-producer John Reese of SGE says, “We are so excited to bring south Orange County its very first all-day country music, craft beer and BBQ festival at the beautiful Doheny State Beach. We’re also giving back to the San Onofre Parks Foundation and Doheny State Beach Interpretive Association with every ticket sold. So in addition to throwing a great local event in our own backyard, we are also helping to preserve our beaches, parks and coastlines, which is what it’s really all about.”

“K-FROG is very excited about presenting the Driftwood festival at Doheny State Beach,” says Steve Hay, Director of Live Events & Experiences for 95.1 KFRG-FM. “We’ve always been California Country, and what’s more California than the beach? We’re bringing an awesome country lineup from Nashville to perform right on the sand of one of our most beautiful beaches.  Great country music with Pacific Coast Highway and a California beach sunset as a backdrop.  It’s something that’s never been done before, and K-FROG is proud to be the station to do it.  You don’t want to miss this one!”

Driftwood at Doheny State Beach has been an idea looking for a home for a long time. We refused to launch until we found the perfect place for the country music-loving crowd. Working with California State Parks to bring another star-studded event to Doheny State Beach is a match made in heaven for Driftwood. Craft beer and wine tastings for four hours, the best BBQ that California has to offer, and HUGE country music acts, all day on the beach in the park with your toes in the sand? OK!,” co-producer Heather Vantress of SGE adds.

A portion of the proceeds from Driftwood at Doheny State Beach will be donated to the San Onofre Parks Foundation–a California non-profit that cooperatively works with the California State Parks to develop, preserve and enhance the recreation and experience of California’s unique and beautiful coastal parks–and the Doheny State Beach Interpretive Association (DSBIA), the non-profit cooperating association of Doheny State Beach, dedicated to the protection of the park’s beaches, facilities, marine refuge and its historical, cultural and social stories.

Ohana Festival Rocks Doheny State Beach

Ohana Festival at Doheny State Beach - Music Legends

Ohana Festival Rocks Doheny State Beach

August 27 & 28, 2016: Eddie Vedder headlined the inaugural Ohana Festival this past weekend at Doheny State Beach. The event benefited the Orange County State Beaches, California State Parks and the San Onofre Parks Foundation.

Saturday’s performances included a spirited set from Alt rock veterans Mudhoney and 80’s LA stars X. Elvis Costello also took the stage at dusk for an incredible solo performance showcasing his guitar and piano solos throughout the set. Vedder joined Costello on stage at the end of his session for a spirited version of “Peace, Love and Understanding.”

Vedder started off his set with a parade of ukulele hits which thrilled the crowd. He wrapped up the night with an amazing duet with pro surfer Kelly Slater, who’s singing prowess deserves much praise.

Sunday’s crowd was entertained by another solid lineup of bands, including City and Colour and headlined by Lana Del Rey. Vedder also returned Sunday evening to join Del Rey on stage to put the finishing touch on an amazing weekend of music. Naturally, we can’t wait for next year’s show!

Check out some of the photos The Local Dish Magazine took of the awesome weekend music event!
