Keeping Access Open, Progressing Toward the Future

Dana Point Harbor Partners Encourages Overflow Parking with the Announcement of Updated Access Points

Dana Point, Calif (October 9, 2024) – The Dana Point Harbor landside of the revitalization has been well underway since breaking ground on the new parking structure at the corner of Golden Lantern and Dana Point Harbor Drive this March. In advance of the next phase of underground utility and infrastructure work, Dana Point Harbor Partners has implemented a new courtesy shuttle program.

A critical component of the revitalization plan is maintaining public and boater access to the harbor. By facilitating all aspects of the project in phases, the harbor will continue to remain open throughout the construction process while mitigating the impact on parking, businesses and common areas. To achieve this, the primary entry and exit points to core businesses will evolve as construction moves through each of the phases.

As Phase 1 and 2 on the landside progress, a detour notice has been put into place for a section of Golden Lantern beginning Monday, October 7. Golden Lantern, between Boater Lot 1 and the Wharf, will be closed to both inbound and outbound traffic. All vehicles will be rerouted through Boater Lot 1 into the Wharf for full access to harbor shops, restaurants and customer parking. Visitors are asked to follow all posted signage and guidance from onsite personnel during this time. Outbound traffic will also be routed through the Wharf to exit via Boater Lot 1 back onto Golden Lantern.

Access to the primary customer parking lot at Mariner’s Village will not be impacted and remains open to regular traffic flow. Pedestrians will continue to be routed to the boardwalk alongside Harpoon Henry’s for access to the Wharf, restaurants, shops, and docks via a designated pedestrian pathway.

Dana Point Harbor encourages the public to avoid potential congestion and instead access dedicated overflow parking located on the East Island with a free shuttle. The Dana Point Harbor Shuttle offers park and ride service from the East Island Lot at 24701 Dana Drive with three designated stops at Mariner’s Village, Wind & Sea, and Dana Wharf. The shuttle runs daily from 7:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. More information can be found online at danapointharbor.com.

The construction site for the three-tiered parking structure is fully underway at the corner of Golden Lantern and Dana Point Harbor Drive. The first section of slab on grade was poured for the new parking structure on July 11 with approximately 555 yards of concrete covering approximately 28,000 square feet. The 8th deck pour was completed mid-September with final deck pours on schedule for the end of October. Underground utility infrastructure work began in early July 2024 and will continue through the duration of Phase 1 and Phase 2 on the landside.

Following completion of the first two phases, construction will then begin on Phase 3 of the Commercial Core, which includes development along the waterfront.

The fully entitled marina, under DPHP partner Bellwether Financial, is currently underway with Phase 7 of the new docks and slips. Phase 8 is expected to begin mid-November. The Marina is expected to reach nearly 50% completion by the end of 2024.

The new hotel development led by DPHP partner RD Olson received Coastal Commission approval in June 2024 and will continue moving plans forward with the City of Dana Point.
