Dentistry with a Side of Fun!

by Victoria Kertz

Sendero Dental Studio is celebrating a milestone year with a major expansion in the Sendero Marketplace shopping center. Fresh off a massive expansion that doubled their footprint, the modern, airy new interiors provide a peaceful environment for the whole family. “We’re thrilled to have more room and more chairs to serve our patients,” owner Dr. Jeffrey Barrera shares. “The expansion allows us to accommodate more patients and provide an even higher level of care.”

One of only a few dentists in the fast-growing Rancho Mission Viejo community, Sendero (which means “trail” or “path” in English), is conveniently located at the corner of Antonio and Ortega Parkways. Close to Gelson’s, the location makes it easy to run errands after a quick cleaning or check-up. And since Dr. Barrera sees patients of all ages, there’s no need to find a pediatric dentist for your little ones. The staff is warm, friendly, and as noted in multiple Yelp reviews, known to remember patients’ names — even when they only see them twice a year! It’s the kind of personalized service that Dr. Barrera loves and is just one reason his practice has become so popular.

“More than anything, we are thankful for the loyalty and support of our patients,” Dr. Barrera says. “They are the reason we come to work every day; their trust in us is something we will never take for granted.”

The growth of Sendero Dental isn’t just about numbers— it’s about enhancing the patient experience. With additional space and staff, the practice now offers more flexible scheduling options and reduced wait times.

Dr. Barrera’s commitment to his practice goes beyond excellent dental care—he genuinely values those who have entrusted their oral health to him and his team. This patient-first approach is evident in every aspect of the practice. From the friendly front desk staff to the skilled dental hygienists and assistants, every team member at Sendero is dedicated to ensuring a positive experience.

Patients also benefit from the expertise of Dr. Tyler Kisling, a valued team member who recently welcomed his first child. “Dr. Kisling is a great asset! I feel blessed to have him on our team,” Dr. Barrera enthuses.

Outside the office, Sendero is an integral part of the Rancho Mission Viejo community, actively participating in local events, supporting schools, and contributing to local organizations. ”We’re not just here to provide dental care,” he explains. “We’re here to be an uplifting force in our community. We’re always looking for ways to contribute.”

This approach to community wellness has not gone unnoticed. People of all ages, from young children to seniors, rely on Sendero Dental Studio not just for their dental needs, but as a trusted resource for overall physical health. As the old saying goes, a good dentist makes for a gleaming smile; a great dentist ensures a healthy life.

As they look to the future, Dr. Barrera and his team are more excited than ever about the possibilities that lie ahead. “We see that we’re making a difference!” Dr. Barrera says, and hints that he may have some announcements about exciting new services later this year. In the meantime, every smile they improve, every patient they educate about oral health, and every community event they support is a step towards a healthier, happier south Orange County.

For top-quality dental care in a welcoming, community-oriented environment, Sendero Dental Studio is ready to serve. Whether you’re due for a routine check-up, need a cleaning, or considering cosmetic dentistry, call them today at 949-371-8533 or visit SenderoDental.com to learn more.

The Solution For Middle School Athletes

Legendary football coach Vince Lombardi once said, “Practice doesn’t make perfect. Perfect practice makes perfect.” Lombardi’s words will resonate with parents whose student-athletes aspire to play at the highest levels because they understand that elite athletes require elite training. “Perfect” practice does not take place in a vacuum—it requires pairing committed athletes and highly skilled coaches to bring its promises to fruition.

For this reason, Fairmont Schools launched Fairmont Athletic Academy (FAA) in 2020. “We recognized that there was a real need for an athletics program that could take a club or travel team athlete and turn them into a regional or national player,” says Program Director Phil Lopez. “But we didn’t want the exceptional nature of our program to stop with athletics. We wanted to bring it into the classroom as well. Fairmont is renowned for its academics. We didn’t want parents to have to choose between exemplary training and exemplary academics. With our program, they get the best of both worlds.”

Fairmont Athletic Academy is offered to middle school student-athletes at Fairmont Schools’ San Juan Capistrano campus. Academy students benefit from spending part of their school day improving their sports performance and skills while reaping the rewards of Fairmont’s award-winning curriculum and teachers.

Recognizing the unique needs of elite athletes, Fairmont offers a schedule that dedicates 85 minutes 5 days per week for strength & conditioning and speed & agility training, and 85 minutes 3 days per week for sport-specific training with their coach.

Gustav Gratzer of the Strikers FC soccer club explains, “A club coach gets an hour and a half twice a week to work with their whole team, of which only so much time can be dedicated to individual skills. Here, I have an athlete 85 minutes three times a week for the whole year to build those individual skills.”

“Fairmont has a history of innovating,” says Rebecca Lugo, Head of School at Fairmont San Juan Capistrano. “When we see an opportunity to address the needs of our families, we seize it. Our leadership heard from many parents about their student-athletes’ challenges – returning home late after practices, starting homework at 9:00 pm, and missing out on important things like family time and sleep. Fairmont responded by developing Fairmont Athletic Academy to address these concerns.”

Working with sport-specific coaches and experienced trainers, each student follows a customized training regimen that leverages technologies like VALD SmartSpeed, JumpMat, and ForceDeck, along with GymAware and dynamometers to track speed and strength metrics. Additional tools are used to provide data-driven testing for resting metabolic rate and VO2 max.

A premier program attracts premier talent. FAA’s coaches and trainers represent some of the top programs in Orange County and beyond, such as Tstreet Volleyball Club, Strikers FC, Tribe Baseball, OC Elite Football, and iTennis. It also attracts some of the county’s top student-athletes who aim to excel not only on the fields, courts, and ice but also in the classroom. Although the San Juan Capistrano campus is just four years old, it capitalizes on Fairmont Schools’ 70- year history of proven academic results. Fairmont SJC has already earned an A+ rating from Niche.

Personal Injury Law

by Victoria Kertz

Power couple Michael and Courtney Cefali created their personal injury law firm, Cefali & Cefali, to be big enough to win and small enough to care. Since their founding in 2019, they have done just that and have doubled in size every year. If you’re looking for a local accident firm with many satisfied clients and five-star reviews, this husband-and-wife team is friendly, welcoming, and easy to communicate with. But don’t let their kindness fool you; they are one tough couple in the courtroom and have the record to prove it. If you’ve been injured in an accident, you don’t have to battle hours of traffic to find this up-and-coming firm; they’re right around the corner in San Juan Capistrano.

Michael and Courtney, who have known each other for 15 years and have been married for the past six, bring varied specialties to the practice. Michael worked with a larger firm before starting his own practice with Courtney, who also does appellate work in federal criminal defense. Years ago, they saw that one of the top complaints of clients at major firms was a general lack of communication. Those firms may have dozens of employees and multiple locations, but their clients, who are already suffering from injuries and high medical bills, find it challenging to talk to a partner or a lawyer of any kind at the firm. That’s why Cefali & Cefali committed to open lines of communication and hired a caring staff who are always ready to help. This customer service-based approach truly sets them apart in the personal injury world.

Clients appreciate the prompt replies but especially love their convenient office location in San Juan Capistrano. This proximity ultimately translates to better case outcomes. As Michael puts it, “You don’t want to travel far when you’re hurt,” and frankly, they don’t want a long commute either. In early 2024, the couple had their first child, Lucy, so working close to home is a must.

“We love San Juan,” says Courtney, who’s on the board of the local Boys & Girls Club. Michael, an avid boater, is a member of the Rotary Club, and they are both supporters of other local charities that give back to the community they hold dear.

At Cefali & Cefali, they understand that the financial aspect of hiring a lawyer can be a concern. That’s why there is no consultation fee, and all work is done on contingency. This means that if you don’t recover any money, you don’t have to pay them. “We have never had a client write us a check,” Courtney confirms. “You get top-quality representation without paying a thing out of pocket.” They’ve found that people can be hesitant to hire an attorney for fear that their case may not be strong enough for compensation or that they don’t want to hurt the other party involved in the accident. Courtney says that in most personal injury cases, individuals who are found liable don’t pay; the funds come from insurers. Those same settlement or verdict proceeds also pay Cefali & Cefali for their work, so neither you nor the other people involved in your accident are likely to lose money as a result.

Have you considered representing yourself in court or think you’ll earn more in proceeds without an attorney? Think again. Michael says that people who hire a lawyer to represent them in personal injury cases get about three times more in their pocket than someone who doesn’t. The team at Cefali & Cefali handles all communication with insurance companies, so you don’t have to. Now that’s a good neighbor to have!

If you’ve been injured in a car accident or hurt by someone else’s negligence, call Cefali & Cefali today at (877) 423-3254 to make an in-person or virtual appointment. There are no fees, and they’re happy to answer your questions and concerns about what you should do. Their years of experience and friendly staff will ease your anxiety and give you an action plan to help you get back on your feet. Visit them today at CallCefali.com.

Your First Call to Restoring Peace of Mind

by Victoria Kertz

If you discover mold on your walls or around your windows, pick up the phone and call South County Restoration in San Clemente. Owner Casey McCants has been flooded with calls due to the record rainfall this season. Homes with older roofs or poorly installed windows may show signs of water intrusion, which worsens as the weather gets hotter.

As a leading water restoration service provider in the area, South County Restoration is your first line of defense. They possess the necessary knowledge and expertise to detect, remediate, and repair water-related issues. Casey, with years of experience, also helps homeowners navigate the complexities of filing insurance claims. Managing the claim process properly is crucial for ensuring adequate coverage. Casey excels at guiding you through the process and securing fair compensation, saying, “You open the claim, we’ll do the rest.”

While most water mitigation services focus on only one aspect of the process, South County Restoration offers comprehensive solutions. From water mitigation to mold removal, leak stoppage, re-piping, and drywall repair, they are your one-stop-shop. Casey, being a general contractor and a qualified homeowner advocate, is well-equipped to address insurance claim matters on your behalf. His experience guarantees that you will be fairly compensated. He explains, “It’s such a confusing time for homeowners. We’re just here to help.”

Even if you decide not to file a claim, South County Restoration remains a valuable resource. Their renowned one-day repipe service minimizes disruption and inconvenience to your family. The team arrives promptly at 8:00 a.m. to complete tasks efficiently. Water mitigation typically takes two to three days to allow inner walls to dry before proceeding with abatement and mold removal. Additionally, the team is skilled in removing hazardous materials like asbestos from older buildings.

Following an exceptionally rainy winter, South County Restoration has primarily focused on mold remediation and prevention. Allowing mold to spread can pose significant health risks. Mold spores, when inhaled, can cause various health problems, particularly for individuals with respiratory issues or weakened immune systems.

Rain isn’t the sole cause of mold and water damage. Pinhole leaks, floods, or burst pipes can also lead to these issues in your home. Regardless of the source, South County Restoration is well-prepared to handle water extraction, drying, dehumidification, cleaning, sanitization, and drywall repair services. They employ state-of-the-art equipment and techniques to swiftly remove water and restore your property. With South County Restoration, you’re in capable hands.

South County Restoration offers a 24/7 Rapid Response Team with quick arrival times. They are ready to assist you with all your water mitigation needs. Before contacting your insurance company, call Casey at 949-536-8204. To learn more about their services, visit SouthCountyRestoration.com.

WONDERING IF WHAT YOU SEE IS MOLD?
Casey says mold can appear in one of these three ways:

1. DISCOLORATION:
Mold often appears as a discoloration on walls, ceilings, floors, and other surfaces. It can be black, green, gray, brown, white, or any combination of these colors.

2. MUSTY ODOR:
Mold has a distinct, musty smell that is often described as earthy or damp.

3. TEXTURED SPOTS:
Mold can have a fuzzy, slimy, or powdery texture. In warm weather, mold can also cause bubbling on walls if water is trapped inside.

Sign up for Summer Camps

by Victoria Kertz

Acting Academy for Kids & TeensWith summer months just around the corner, now is the perfect time to plan a fun, creative routine for children and teens. The Acting Academy for Kids & Teens (AA4K) is now open for summer camp registration, and this summer’s weeklong stage productions offer so many new opportunities for your kids to shine!

Founder Stephen Zygo is thrilled to introduce five new musicals for young voices, Barbie and Ken, Wonka, Trolls 3, Mean Girls, and WISH Upon a Star, plus returning favorites Matilda and Harry Potter. With camps from June 3 through August 9, kids (ages 5 to 14) are welcome for one week, all 10 weeks, or anything in between. AA4K is truly where the summer meets the stage — it’s all about bright lights, bright futures, and delightful productions that the whole family will love. There are life lessons, too… theatre camps build strong, resilient performers who learn to overcome challenges that come their way.

This summer is particularly special for Stephen as his son will be making his return to the Z Playhouse stage per his request since he had so much fun last summer! He dreamed of the day when he would see his own children perform at AA4K, and he’s delighted that they can join dozens of theatre-loving kids in a place that makes them (and everyone) feel very comfortable. Always a safe space for students and kids, camps will again occur at the Z Playhouse in Mission Viejo and Lyceum Village in Irvine. “Both places create a space that feels like a second home,” Stephen says.

The local longtime camp has not only produced theatre majors who return each summer to be counselors but has also unlocked professional opportunities for some very talented students. Three of Stephen’s students were recently cast in an upcoming Netflix show, and others have moved on to pursue studies and careers in the arts. One camper’s parent told him AA4K camps changed her daughter’s life. “She told me, ‘My daughter loves being part of your theatre. It’s everything to her.’ I mean, WOW!” he recalls. There’s plenty of positivity, creativity, and good energy in each fun-filled week.

Yet, at AA4K, it’s not just summer camps—theatre is a yearlong production! Teen auditions are right around the corner for their summer production of Urinetown, an adapted and teen-appropriate show that runs from June through August while High School students are on summer break. Musicals continue through the Fall, Winter and Spring with sessions that will take on more full-length shows. These seasonal programs are designed to let students take their love and experiences in musical theatre to the next level.

The only category that takes a break in summer is the recently reinvigorated TV and Film Department, AA4K Studios, the only Orange County program offering IMDB credit for locally produced films starring students. “We are one of the only programs creating film and TV magic for kids,” said Courtney Yamanishi, AA4K Studios Director, about the hands-on program, which includes access to state-of-the-art cameras, lighting, and a real-world working Hollywood film crew. Kids love it because they aren’t just acting; they’re learning the craft of filmmaking.

The Z Playhouse is busy and bustling at any time of year. It hosts full-scale children’s and adult productions, piano and voice lessons, and even stand-up comedy shows.

For those eager to enroll or seek further information about AA4K, a visit to ActingAcademyForKids.com or a call to 949-427-0072 is all it takes. Aspiring directors, choreographers, or summer camp counselors are encouraged to email ActingAcademy4Kids@gmail.com with their resumes. Give your kids a sprinkle of theatrical magic—start planning now for an unforgettable experience.

Cake Changes Everything

In need of a reason to celebrate? Look no further than the place known for celebrations, Nothing Bundt Cakes! Local bakery owners, Misty La Force and Annamarie Megrdichian, have been sharing celebrations in Southern California since 2016. In July 2023, they joined forces with their longtime friend, Christina Foley, and purchased the San Clemente bakery. Together, these ladies are making joyful history!

To find the perfect recipe, one first needs the perfect ingredients. And that’s exactly what founders Dena Tripp and Debbie Schwetz were for each other. In 1997, they joined forces, or better yet, kitchens, to make cakes to entertain their friends and family. The cakes they made were delicious, unlike anything anyone had ever tasted. As a result, their friends and family asked them to entertain more and more. They quickly realized that this side project of theirs could be something more. There was a gap in the world for delicious cakes, readily available, that didn’t compromise on their ingredients. Fresh eggs, real butter, and real cream cheese, nothing was too good to achieve perfection. And perfection is those decadent, slowly melting bites of joy we all know and love.

Flash forward 27 years later, there are more than 500 bakeries operating, and at least 100 more are planned to open in the next year in the United States and Canada. This little “side gig” of theirs has truly become a mainstay in the world of celebrations.

Bringing joy to the San Clemente area is what drives this high-powered partnership. “We couldn’t be prouder of our success and the positive atmosphere that our team brings to our guests every day!” states owner Annamarie Megrdichian. Co-owner, Misty La Force, noddingly agrees and adds, “I attribute our success to a great team, fabulous guests, and a quality product.” Offering four convenient sizes and ten delectable flavors, including a favorite Gluten-free flavor, Nothing Bundt Cakes does not disappoint. The super moist, delicious cakes provide a tasteful addition to any celebration, party, or just because. Guests are sold with their first, life-altering bite of our scrumptious product!

Led by owner/operator, Christina Foley, the San Clemente bakery team members bring a welcoming, yet nostalgic experience to all who enter its doors. The friendly staff is there daily to greet guests, and besides the delicious cakes, they offer a wide variety of unique gift items and hand-crafted cake decorations for any occasion.

Owner/Operator Christina Foley is the perfect example of how hard work pays off. She is usually at the bakery before her team, preparing for the day and planning her marketing efforts throughout the community. “Joining forces with these two proven bakery owners was the best decision I could ever have made,” states Ms. Foley. “I’m so excited that we are able to bring the joy to our local community. We love how our new fundraising model is providing a wonderful avenue to raise funds for local non-profits, schools, and organizations in our town.”

It doesn’t end there. The San Clemente bakery is getting ready to commence the new “Books and Bundts” reading program for local youth. This new program provides a free bundtlet for every 40 hours of reading a child completes, demonstrating another way that Nothing Bundt Cakes is changing lives and encouraging students to excel.

Nothing Bundt Cakes in San Clemente is open every day. If you have not been in to visit, they invite you to share in the joy! If it’s been a while, please come back and reward yourself. You will not be sorry. The bakery is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sundays.

They eagerly anticipate your visit and the opportunity to share the joy with you!

Triton Air

Triton Air

Triton Air

From Heat Pumps To Helping Hands, Triton Air Is On A Mission!

by Victoria Kertz

For over two decades, Triton Air and their sea-blue service vans have been a part of the San Clemente landscape, providing essential heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) services while fostering a culture of positive impact. With a commitment to excellence and deep roots in south Orange County, Triton Air is thriving in its third decade. They’re growing, improving, and under the leadership of a dedicated team, Triton is poised to help even more residents live better lives.

Luis Montiel, the recently promoted General Manager, has big plans for the company he’s been with for nearly 11 years. Having started his HVAC journey as an installation apprentice and doing stints in commercial and installation roles, Luis truly shines as a manager. His promotion exemplifies Triton Air’s commitment to nurturing talent from within. The team is always on the lookout for people who like to build, repair, and problem-solve, inviting potential candidates to learn the ways of HVAC service.

Alongside Luis is Karyn Lerdahl, the team’s longtime heart, soul, and no-nonsense Office Manager. Known for her steadfast and efficient planning, she keeps everything running promptly and smoothly. She works out of the team’s San Clemente headquarters and was integral to the opening of Triton’s brand-new service and installation center in Laguna Niguel.

Expanding Their Reach in Laguna Niguel
The opening of the Laguna Niguel office in 2023 brings much-needed space for one of their largest departments: installation. Spearheaded by Christian Nicks, the Laguna Niguel office is set to play a pivotal role in Triton’s growth strategy. With ample office space and plenty of warehousing opportunities, the new office gives Triton a leg up on their competition, enabling them to have quick access to parts, tools, and in-demand materials. Christian, overseeing operations, ensures efficient management and seamless integration with Triton’s overall objectives. The new office is a key move in Triton’s growth strategy, while San Clemente will remain the company’s headquarters and hub. The northward expansion allows for increased capacity and service while maintaining the close-knit community feel that Triton Air is known for.

Embracing Sustainability
When you meet with a Triton Air representative, you’re getting top-notch service and meeting with an HVAC expert. Reps know the latest tech and how to apply for current state and local rebate opportunities for energy-efficient machines and installs. They recommend replacing older furnaces with modern heat pumps as temperatures begin to dip; this shift from gas-powered systems offers a safer and more energy-efficient way to heat and cool homes that also happens to reduce carbon emissions. Triton Air can help you navigate the enrollment process for government programs incentivizing environmentally friendly installations. This comprehensive approach ensures homeowners can make informed decisions and bring on sustainable solutions. Have solar panels? “Heat pumps are the best way to maximize your panels,” Luis says, “because heat pumps are powered by electricity, not gas.”

A Force for Good
Ask anyone in San Clemente, and they’ll tell you Triton Air is more than the number you call when your AC goes out. They have supported San Clemente High School athletics for years and raise funds for the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network and the National Breast Cancer Foundation. In a display of remembrance, Triton’s service van dons a year-round purple wrap, honoring a lost team member to pancreatic cancer. Their endeavors earned them recognition on ABC7, showcasing their involvement in “Spark of Love” — a program dedicated to delivering joy to underprivileged children in Orange County during the festive season. Triton Air believes you’re never too busy to help someone in need.

Looking Ahead: Growth with Purpose
Since 2001, Triton Air has grown organically. As they move forward, their goals remain clear: expand the maintenance team, continue to improve customer reviews, and extend their reach to help more people throughout Orange County. “More than anything, we want to keep serving our communities and have more community involvement in Orange County,” Luis says. “Our mission is everything; we are here to impact our community and everyone we do business with — positively.”

Triton Air is the best example of a company that thrives by prioritizing service and community! Prepare for cooler months and call Triton Air today for a healthier, safer, and cleaner indoor environment for your family. Call 949.482.2492 or visit TritonAir.com to see this month’s offers and savings.

Celebrating Over 20 Years

A Heartfelt Thank You to The Community

by Dan Brazeau

In the unfolding narrative of the Brazeau family’s 21-year journey in the assisted living business, a momentous juncture arrives as new ownership takes the helm. Gratitude and nostalgia permeate this transition, seizing the opportunity to express heartfelt appreciation to the community that has been the pillar of support throughout this remarkable chapter.

From the start, founder Paul Brazeau envisioned a warm and nurturing environment where seniors could thrive, surrounded by love, compassion, and a sense of belonging. He often likened the facility to “the cruise ship that never sets sail.” With unwavering dedication, the team aimed to provide personalized care, fostering a sense of togetherness that embraced both residents and their families.

The community’s trust over the years is a source of deep humility, a driving force behind their success. Stories, smiles, and heartfelt connections have shaped their journey and enriched their lives.

Acknowledgment is extended to current and former residents who graciously welcomed the team into their lives. The daily inspiration derived from their strength, resilience, and unwavering spirits is truly commendable. Witnessing the bonds of friendship and love that have blossomed under the roof has been a privilege, and the shared memories will be forever cherished.

To the families who entrusted their loved ones into their care, a heartfelt thank you is extended. The trust and confidence in the team have been the cornerstone of their commitment to excellence. It has been an honor to walk alongside these families during their journey, providing support, compassion, and understanding during both joyous and challenging times.

Lastly, profound appreciation is expressed to the incredible staff members who poured their hearts and souls into making the assisted living facility a true haven. The dedication, passion, and unwavering commitment to the residents have been nothing short of extraordinary. They are the backbone of the family, and thanks are extended for the love and care given to all who have passed through the doors.

As the torch is passed to new management, there is a sense of excitement and optimism. The firm belief is that they will continue the legacy of compassion and love that has defined the assisted living business. The bonds forged with the residents will forever remain etched in their hearts, and encouragement is given to continue supporting and cherishing this special place that has meant so much to all.

The Brazeau family expresses deep gratitude to the people of San Clemente for the unwavering support, trust, and belief in the mission. It is because of the community that a difference has been made in the lives of so many. As this chapter bids farewell, it does so with full hearts, knowing that the spirit of family and fellowship will continue to thrive within these walls.
