LCC Preschool

This approach is a growing trend in education and LCC Preschool is one of very few to offer this in their area. The preschool’s teaching method is designed to help children develop their cognitive, social, and emotional skills in a way that teaches children how to learn.

“We believe that children learn best when they are actively engaged in their learning,” said Joan Lundbohm, Director of LCC Preschool. “That’s why we focus on providing our students with specific hands-on activity centers in the classroom, that allow them to explore and discover new things.”

Some of the learning through play activities that LCC Preschool offers include:
Building: Block building is a great way for children to develop their spatial reasoning skills and problem-solving abilities.

Creative arts: Creative arts activities, such as painting, drawing, and sculpting, allow children to express themselves and explore their imaginations.

Foundations Cognitive Schools

Foundations Cognitive Schools
FOR STUDENTS WITH LEARNING DIFFICULTIES

Foundations Cognitive Schools

The Foundations program methodology is to move past the traditional concept of simply managing the symptoms of learning disabilities and, instead, address the root cause of these challenges. Based on the concept of neuroplasticity (the brain’s ability to change, heal, and grow in response to targeted training), each day, students perform cognitive exercises that have been scientifically proven to strengthen weak cognitive capabilities. In other words, the goal of Foundations is to transform the brain, establishing capabilities that did not exist and, thus, begin to instill a newfound confidence and a love of learning. By strengthening cognitive capacities, students are able to work through tasks which were once incredibly challenging for them. In addition to its scientific approach to cognitive improvement, Foundations includes state-certified reading, writing, and math programs. When combined with the cognitive exercises, these programs have helped many students achieve dramatic academic improvement.

INDIVIDUALIZED PROGRAM THAT PROVIDES INCLUSION IN SCHOOL ACTIVITIES
Foundations is a full-time program for students in 1st through 12th grade. Each classroom has a student-teacher ratio of 4:1. Students are assessed and work at a pace and level that is appropriate for his or her particular needs. In order to ensure that students are connected socially to others in their peer group, Foundations is located on the campus of a large private school, which allows students to attend recess, lunch, and enrichment/elective classes (P.E., art, music, etc.) with mainstream students in their grade. They also have the opportunity to play on sports teams and to participate in extra-curricular school activities offered at our partner school, such as choir, dance, cheer, clubs, etc. High School students are offered the option to pursue a High School Diploma, or to participate in a Certificate of Completion program.

OUR PARTNER SCHOOL
Foundations is located on the San Juan Capistrano campus of the prestigious Fairmont Schools. The beautiful campus, spanning 66,000 square feet, includes two educational wings full of classroom space, playgrounds, gymnasium, music room, science labs, and more.

WHEN YOU BALANCE LEARNING WITH PLAY… THE EXTRAORDINARY HAPPENS!

Stratford School

At Stratford School, high expectations yield extraordinary results. The advanced yet intentionally balanced curriculum starts as early as preschool to inspire and nurture the minds and hearts of every student. From the outset, they simplify challenging concepts, then accelerate learning to enable their students to study ahead of grade level, develop a love of learning, and prepare for the future.

From preschool through grade 8, Stratford’s curriculum is infused with sequential instruction in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics — “STEAM” — to help students develop a diverse set of problem-solving skills and talents they’ll need in today’s world. This is accomplished through a unique cross-disciplinary approach that enhances critical thinking, integrates ideas from multiple subjects, and ultimately expands student learning.

Beginning in preschool, Stratford’s curriculum is designed to develop the cognitive, social, emotional, and physical building blocks. Hands-on, multi-sensory activities, including their Imaginative STEAM Play, encourage preschoolers to play and share with others, while developing their self-confidence, so each child discovers the joy and excitement of learning.

In elementary, Stratford’s accelerated core curriculum exceeds the National Standardized ERB Results and motivates students to become critical thinkers and proficient writers. This balanced approach imparts students with not only a well-rounded education; it fosters the development of strong friendships, effective study skills, and blossoming self-confidence.

Middle school continues the Stratford tradition of excellence. They prepare and mentor students for placement in honors and advanced courses at top-tier private and public high schools. Stratford’s intentional approach to educating the whole child results in young adults who are gifted communicators, skilled, generous collaborators, creative problem-solvers, and confident, insightful leaders.

The caring and passionate teachers at Stratford cultivate a fun and nurturing classroom environment, where high expectations encourage students to try new things with confidence and enthusiasm. They present a broad spectrum of learning opportunities. They engage students. They invite questions. They encourage students to collaborate. Consequently, students laugh a lot, and learn even more.

Mogavero Orthodontics

EXPERT INBRACE PROVIDER

by Victoria Kertz

Meet Dr. Frank Mogavero, a distinguished orthodontist in San Clemente with over 33 years of experience. Known throughout South County as the go-to orthodontist for local Olympians and athletes, Dr. Mogavero says that despite his success, family is always first. He’s happiest when he’s just Dad to the three most important people in his life, Ryder, Charlotte, and Cambria (see them on the cover of this month’s issue, along with Atlas, their Siberian Husky). For Dr. Mogavero, life revolves around his three kids, serving with the youth ministry at Shoreline Church, and coaching his son Ryder’s soccer team. His days are full of family, faith, and love, and he wouldn’t want it any other way.

Dr. Frank Mogavero’s professional journey began at the Baylor School of Dentistry after earning his undergraduate degree in biomedical engineering at UCLA. Since then, he served as a clinical professor for post-doctorate residents in the Department of Orthodontics at USC, and he still loves to study the newest and most advanced treatments available.

That passion for innovation has made him an early adopter of newer treatments over the last three decades, and today, he’s one of the top providers of InBrace. This unique treatment attaches behind the teeth and uses a digitally created smart wire to move teeth. “It’s the fastest treatment I’ve ever seen,” he says. “People love it not only because it’s hidden; it’s always working. That’s what makes it so effective.”

Just ask Nick DeRe, whose son Caden’s upper cuspid (eye tooth) saw dramatic movement in just a few months. “We are thrilled with the results so far with our son’s InBrace treatment. The movement after four months has been remarkable. Dr. Frank and his staff are at the forefront of the latest and best in-practice methods. We are grateful for the results so far and will bring our son’s younger siblings in the future!”

Tyler Wojciechowski, an airline pilot Dr. Mogavero treated as a teenager, now brings his children in. “Dr. Mogavero treated me over 30 years ago, and I never imagined one day he’d be treating my kids. My son just finished stage one, and my daughter just began the process and we couldn’t be happier!”

Eileen Stafford of San Clemente is amazed at how quickly InBrace worked. “My daughter had just completed two rounds of orthodontia care with Dr. Mogavero that were very successful a few years prior. So when I saw the article featuring InBrace as a discreet and fast option, I set up a consultation. It has been a very quick process, and the staff was super responsive to any questions or scheduling assistance I needed!”

But today’s orthodontics is sometimes about something other than teeth. Over the last few years, new treatments have focused on improving a patient’s airway for easier breathing. “What we want to do is make space,” he says. Aligning teeth and jaws allows airway space to expand and improves airflow. This increased space can allow for better tongue posture and prevent the tongue from falling back into the throat during sleep, which can obstruct the airway and contribute to sleep and general breathing disorders. Airway concerns are one of the growing reasons that parents bring their children into his office for their first visit.

The American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) recommends that children have their first orthodontic evaluation by age 7. Even if teeth positioning isn’t a concern, Dr. Mogavero can check a child’s airway and treat them for breathing or snoring issues.

Ready to get started? Visit Dr. Mogavero’s Free Scan Day on July 24. He’s offering complimentary, all-digital, high-resolution intra-oral scans. Each Scan Day patient will have their scans evaluated by Dr. Mogavero himself, and no referrals are needed to attend. Call today at 949-373-3737 or request an appointment at syncyoursmile.com. Your First Call to Restoring Peace of Mind

by Victoria Kertz

If you discover mold on your walls or around your windows, pick up the phone and call South County Restoration in San Clemente. Owner Casey McCants has been flooded with calls due to the record rainfall this season. Homes with older roofs or poorly installed windows may show signs of water intrusion, which worsens as the weather gets hotter.

As a leading water restoration service provider in the area, South County Restoration is your first line of defense. They possess the necessary knowledge and expertise to detect, remediate, and repair water-related issues. Casey, with years of experience, also helps homeowners navigate the complexities of filing insurance claims. Managing the claim process properly is crucial for ensuring adequate coverage. Casey excels at guiding you through the process and securing fair compensation, saying, “You open the claim, we’ll do the rest.”

While most water mitigation services focus on only one aspect of the process, South County Restoration offers comprehensive solutions. From water mitigation to mold removal, leak stoppage, re-piping, and drywall repair, they are your one-stop-shop. Casey, being a general contractor and a qualified homeowner advocate, is well-equipped to address insurance claim matters on your behalf. His experience guarantees that you will be fairly compensated. He explains, “It’s such a confusing time for homeowners. We’re just here to help.”

Even if you decide not to file a claim, South County Restoration remains a valuable resource. Their renowned one-day repipe service minimizes disruption and inconvenience to your family. The team arrives promptly at 8:00 a.m. to complete tasks efficiently. Water mitigation typically takes two to three days to allow inner walls to dry before proceeding with abatement and mold removal. Additionally, the team is skilled in removing hazardous materials like asbestos from older buildings.

Following an exceptionally rainy winter, South County Restoration has primarily focused on mold remediation and prevention. Allowing mold to spread can pose significant health risks. Mold spores, when inhaled, can cause various health problems, particularly for individuals with respiratory issues or weakened immune systems.

Rain isn’t the sole cause of mold and water damage. Pinhole leaks, floods, or burst pipes can also lead to these issues in your home. Regardless of the source, South County Restoration is well-prepared to handle water extraction, drying, dehumidification, cleaning, sanitization, and drywall repair services. They employ state-of-the-art equipment and techniques to swiftly remove water and restore your property. With South County Restoration, you’re in capable hands.

South County Restoration offers a 24/7 Rapid Response Team with quick arrival times. They are ready to assist you with all your water mitigation needs. Before contacting your insurance company, call Casey at 949-536-8204. To learn more about their services, visit SouthCountyRestoration.com.

WONDERING IF WHAT YOU SEE IS MOLD?

Casey says mold can appear in one of these three ways:

1. DISCOLORATION: Mold often appears as a discoloration on walls, ceilings, floors, and other surfaces. It can be black, green, gray, brown, white, or any combination of these colors.

2. MUSTY ODOR: Mold has a distinct, musty smell that is often described as earthy or damp.

3. TEXTURED SPOTS: Mold can have a fuzzy, slimy, or powdery texture. In warm weather, mold can also cause bubbling on walls if water is trapped inside.
