September is World Alzheimer’s Month

Every step forward brings us closer to a world without Alzheimer’s and all other dementia. On Saturday, Sept. 19, the Alzheimer’s Association Orange County Chapter invites the community to the Walk to End Alzheimer’s South Orange County at Sendero Field in Rancho Mission Viejo, uniting families, caregivers, advocates and supporters in the fight against this devastating disease.

Festivities begin at 9 a.m., with the Opening Ceremony at 10:15 a.m. and the Walk at 10:30 a.m. Participants will come together to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research.

One of the most inspiring moments is the Promise Garden ceremony, where participants carry flowers representing their personal connection to the cause. Blue represents those living with Alzheimer’s or another dementia, purple honors those who have lost someone to the disease, yellow represents caregivers and orange symbolizes advocates and supporters. Together, the flowers are a powerful reminder that no one faces this journey alone.

Funds raised through the Walk support critical research, educational programs, caregiver resources, support groups and the Alzheimer’s Association’s 24/7 Helpline (800-272-3900).

Local SJC Home Instead business owner Jim Kordenbrock has served as co-chair of the event for the past five years. “This is personal to me. Not only do I deal with the impact of Alzheimer’s every day in our in-home care business, but I lost my father to this cruel disease.”
